A message from your President

I have been in contact with various high ranking officials that have been keeping me updated on the Verizon strike situation. They're calling on our support as Local 503 Members. There will be a march to Verizon's Chairman, Ivan Siedenberg's house on Friday August 12th at 8:15 pm beginning at the Birchwood School 214 Sickle Town Rd West Nyack NY. We are expecting a very large turnout to show as Union Members we are all United no matter what Local you belong to.
As you all are aware at this point
Communication Workers are on strike. As a fellow union
brother and sister, please take a few minutes out of your
day to stop by one of the following pickets to show your
support. Drop off a bottle of water and let CWA know we have
their back. Wear a RED shirt, or just come in your union
shirt! Thank you.

Please help support our fellow IBEW and CWA brothers and sisters currently on strike. As many of you should know they are currently fighting to keep very important negotiated benefits. Many of these issues are what this Local faced at our last negotiations. We need to show support to them as much as we can. We are all in this together.
United We Bargain Divided We Beg

Elections Posting
Brothers and Sisters of Local 503:
In lieu of a handful of nominees having withdrawn their
bids, there will be no need for ballots to be mailed out to
the membership for elections.
All Officers are running unopposed.
The required three (3) Delegate positions for the IBEW
International Convention are also unopposed.
The Executive Board has twelve (12) nominees. A thirteenth
position will be solicited once the new Executive Board is
in place.
I encourage members from all units to apply for this
opening.
Fraternally yours,
Brian W. Scott

Dear Brothers and Sisters of Local 503.2:
As you are all well aware, this Local has tried hard and
earnestly to work very closely with WVT, while keeping
everyone's best interest and welfare in mind.
We've had continued Labor Management Meetings attempting to
keep the lines of communication open in an effort to insure
all operations continue functioning at their highest level
of productivity potential and success for both the company
and our members. We've agreed and signed off on MOA's in an
attempt to keep things running smoothly through whatever
transitions the company claimed necessary to the business,
believing we were doing so in an honest and fair business
manner, hoping for the same respect and spirit of
cooperation in return from the company.
Based on recent events, it has come to light that it does
not seem to be what we are actually dealing with here.
I find it extremely troubling that after all the efforts LU
503 and its' members have made to keep a safe and productive
work environment a priority, that in this day and age the
company is forcing employees to use vehicles that have
failed inspection and are clearly unsafe to drive. The
company has also taken offense to the membership bringing
attention to the numerous costly issues and complications
they are experiencing with the new insurance plan, instead
of offering to help immediately and offer whatever
assistance is needed to help the members with their medical
needs that may be in jeopardy.
The most troubling act on the company's part as of late was
laying off of (2) two employees with (1) one hour notice to
the Local.
Not one thing was mentioned in the Labor Management Meeting,
nor was anything mentioned by Duane Albro or Pat Welch at an
additional meeting with myself and Scott Jensen following
about having an excess or laying any of our members off.
Did this excess develop that quickly coincidentally after
complaints were submitted regarding the safety of the
vehicles or the letter send regarding the health insurance
issues? Did they in fact develop maybe for reasons the
company would not be forthright about?
This is not how we openly communicate, nor is it what we
consider to be fair and honest business practices, which is
what this Local has always strived for and will continue to
strive for with the company.
In Solidarity,
Brian W. Scott
President/Business Manager
